I love weaving narratives that capture resilience, innovation, and interdisciplinary connections, but I sought ways to give these skills to others. To bridge my passion for higher education and writing, I work as a writing adviser at the Center for Undergraduate Learning and Enrichment. The job entails working with students from every discipline and background during 45 minute appointments. In the tutoring role, I strive to care for the whole person – that is, help the writer create a final product that they’re proud of by letting their needs or concerns dictate the focus of the session. In addition to helping students feel more confident in their writing, I love the conversations in between where I get to understand the writer’s motivations and validate the struggle that can come with not getting into a first-choice major, or the challenge of taking a composition course as an English language learner. I am proud to use my writing skills to support others in making their story accessible.
